CNN has a great story and pictures about the latest pooch trend in Beijing - dyeing dogs to look like other animals. Paying top dollar for dogs, doting on pooches with lavish trips to the spa and dressing them in designer dubs are not new trends. Think your commute to work is rough? Imagine spending nine days in traffic. That's what folks traveling from Jining to Beijing along the Beijing-Tibet expressway are enduring.
The 62-mile traffic jam is being blamed on an influx of cargo trucks delivering produce, coal and other goods to China's capital and construction which has worsened the problem. The congestion is expected to continue until mid-September when the construction is scheduled to end. Price gouging on basic commodities like food and water has already been reported. Hmm...today's morning rush hour doesn't seem so bad after all.

It's official. Taiwan's parliament voted to approve the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA). ECFA is a trade agreement between mainland China and Taiwan that will lower tariffs on hundreds of Chinese and Taiwanese products. The vote means ECFA will become law in January 2011.
