SHERYL UNDERWOOD'S BIO:
One of the boldest and most brazen women in comedy is Sheryl Underwood. Sheryl
dares to say what other people really want to say, discussing sex, politics,
current events and relationships, bringing adult conversation to the stage like
a tent revival meeting. Her show elicits bold testimonials from even the most
conservative crowds. Sheryl's appeal is her down-to-earth nature and her ability
to get the audience to understand her views even if they don't agree with them.
Sheryl uses humor to give examples of her points of view. Her routine is based
on real-life experiences-from the death of her husband to serving in the Gulf
war, and her controversial thoughts as a sexually-progressive, God-fearing black
Republican.
Sheryl has competed in the Funniest Women in Fresno, Johnny Walker Red and
Funniest Women in the Improv-Chicago contests. She was the first woman finalist
in the 1989 Miller Lite Comedy Search, winner of the 1993 Old English Women's
Comedy Crunch and the 1994 BET Award as the Funniest Female Comedian
on Comic View, and the first runner-up in the 1995 Bay Area Black Comedy
Competition, securing Sheryl a place in history as the highest-ranking female
comedian, as well as the only comedian to place in the final round in 1993,
1994 and 1995. Sheryl has appeared in Aspen at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival,
on the Lou Rawls Parade of Stars Telethon, HBO's Def Comedy Jam,
Showtime's Full-Frontal Comedy Show, BET Comic View and FOX's
Saturday Night Special. Sheryl has been a guest host on Hot 97 for Dr. Dre
and Ed Lover, the Tom Joyner Morning Show and BET Talk. Sheryl
has also appeared in Warren Beatty's Bulworth and Master P's I Got
the Hook Up.
Not only is Sheryl one of the hardest working comedians in the country, but
she also donates 5% of her road earnings to Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and
still has time to support worthy causes such as: The African-American Female
Comedian Association (President); Press and Publicity; the State of California
conference of the NAACP (Chair); her local Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority,
Inc. (President); Omicron Rho Zeta Chapter; and much more. Sheryl's Comedy CD/cassette,
Grown Folk Business, is selling all over the country and her Safer Sex Poster
is raising thousands of dollars for AIDS Research and the fight against AIDS.
